Linnodee Diagnostics

About Us

Linnodee Diagnostics was established in 1999 by the late Dr Ernest F Logan OBE and is an accredited laboratory to ISO9001:2015 and EN ISO13485:2016. Linnodee Diagnostics is a manufacturer and research diagnostics company primarily for the detection of Leptospirosis in humans and animals. Leptospirosis is a zoonotic disease caused by bacteria from the genus Leptospira, which affects the human and animal population worldwide. In animals, Leptospirosis is usually transmitted by urine or body fluids of infected animals. In humans, transmission can be derived from contact with contaminated water, food or soil.

Veterinary Products

Leptospirosis is a major cause of economic losses in the farming industry as it consequently leads to abortions, still births, reduced fertility and reduced milk production. Infected animals generally don’t exhibit symptoms of Leptospirosis, making it crucial for regular screening for disease detection, surveillance and control. As Leptospirosis is zoonotic, it poses a significant risk of infection for those who are working with infected animals. Our veterinary diagnostic kits include, the Bovine Leptospira Hardjo ELISA Kit which detects L.Hardjo-specific antibodies in milk and sera in 80 minutes. The sensitivity of the kit is 94.1% with the specificity being 94.8% and can come with solid plates (5 plate kit) or strip plates (2 plate kit and 5 plate kit). Another veterinary product Linnodee produces is a Porcine Leptospira Bratislava ELISA Kit which Detects L.Bratislava-specific antibodies in serum in 180 minutes. The sensitivity is 96.1% and specificity being 93.8% and can come in the form of solid or strip plates.

Human Products

Leptospirosis in humans can have a variety of symptoms such as, high fever, headache, muscle aches, vomiting and jaundice, so it is often indistinguishable from other acute bacterial and viral infections. This makes our leptospirosis screening tests important in producing a diagnosis. Leptospirosis infections in humans can lead to life-threatening problems including organ failure and internal bleeding leading to death making a rapid diagnosis vital to prevent this. Leptorapide is our human diagnostic test kit which is a simple, yet accurate one step test that detects the presence of Leptospira-specific antibodies in human sera in less than 5 minutes. It is an agglutination test consisting of an antigenic bead complex. when mixing with positive sera, interlinking of the beads occurs, allowing for visible agglutination. A positive/negative result can be determined using the agglutination scale found within the kit. The sensitivity of the kit is 90.9% and the specificity is 95.2% and it can come in various quantities of tests including 50, 100, 150, 200 and 250 tests.

Current Research Projects

Recently Linnodee Diagnostics have widened their manufacturing capabilities and expertise by investing in research of a Leptospirosis detection Lateral Flow device for humans. This involves Linnodee Diagnostics producing Lateral Flow manufacturing facilities and Lateral Flow training. Lateral Flow devices are fast, simple immunoassay-based testing platforms. They employ immune-chromatographic technology, with the ability to detect the presence of a target analyte in a sample without the need for specialized and costly equipment. Linnodee is in the latter stages of developing this Lateral Flow device for the detection of Leptospirosis as an addition to Linnodee Diagnostics array of products.

Market

Linnodee Diagnostic kits are used extensively worldwide Export markets include UK and Ireland, Spain, Belgium, Germany, Japan, USA, Malaysia and India. The products have been employed in disease prevalence studies conducted in Europe, Japan, USA, Thailand and South America.
