Rescape Innovation Ltd

About Us

Rescape is a medtech business based in Cardiff. Operating nationally and internationally.

Since 2018 Rescape has been selling its now registered medical device (MHRA ref 10780), DR.VR®, into the NHS, Care Homes and Hospices. DR.VR® is a virtual reality platform that provides pain, anxiety, stress relief and improves patient’s experience for both adults and children.

  • DR.VR® is designed to be simple and straightforward to implement even with no prior VR experience.
  • DR.VR® Junior is designed for Paediatric departments with content focused on paediatric users.
  • DR.VR® + Higher function version of the DR.VR® kit which contains a 360 Camera in addition to the contents above. This enables users to record their own experiences, for example family members could record a family event such as a wedding or birthday celebration to share with care home residents who are unable to attend.
  • DR.VR® Frontline/Personal is a personal version of DR.VR which was developed for use outside of the main hospital setting (Home and Primary Care). The kit is a headset only and is designed to be used by individual users routinely over a 6-8 week period. Research has shown VR has the potential to have an impact on well being, in particular managing stress and anxiety. The DR.VR® Platform and content was adapted to suit the specific needs of frontline staff during the COVID 19 Pandemic and with Cwm Taf MUHB and the Centre for Trials Research, Cardiff University a service evaluation of this product showed reduction in anxiety of NHS frontline staff.
  • DR.VR® Training is multi-user version of DR.VR intended for use as part of training programs. Up to 10 VR headsets are controlled centrally but one Tablet enabling a trainer to deliver VR based training to small groups. Particularly well suited to empathy based training offerings it allows simulated first hand experience of situations and can replace role-play as part of training content delivering a cost effective training solution into the care and blue light services.

Based on 20 years of research and evidence showing VR to be an effective way of reducing pain, further research and trials are underway using the flexible modular DR.VR® platform to support multiple care pathways with various trials underway for different therapeutic interventions, both in primary and secondary care.

Rescape both create their own VR therapeutic content as well as work with others who have developed specific content for patient outcomes and wish to use the DR.VR® platform to deliver it into the care pathway.
