New to 2022, the UK Pavilion has launched the ‘UK Pavilion Presentation Theatre’ to showcase the strengths of UK life sciences at MEDICA 2022.
Organised by the Association of British HealthTech Industries (ABHI), the Department for International Trade (DIT), and co-sponsored by Welsh Government and law firm Sidley Austin, the theatre will run for the full four days at the show.
As well as showcasing the latest cutting-edge healthcare innovations from the UK, there will also be a series of presentations from DIT Commercial officers throughout the week covering all matters international trade and regulatory access.
Here’s what’s coming up on Day 2:

Showcasing a glimpse into the UK’s capabilities and opportunities across the MedTech sector. This session will be led by DIT’s Dr Neil Ebenezer, MedTech and Genomics Specialist.

- GlucoRx BioXensor: Non-Invasive Blood Glucose monitoring using RF and Multi- Sensors (11:30am – 12:15pm)
The presentation will highlight the developmental journey of the non-invasive GlucoRx sensor, by the Cardiff University team and Wellcome Trust. The technology provides a sustainable, non-invasive continuous blood glucose monitor for generating accurate, real-time glucose measurements. This session will be led by Dr Sam Hefford, Research Associate, Centre for High-Frequency Engineering, Cardiff University.
- How can the HealthTech industry can become a pioneer when it comes to sustainability? (12:20pm – 12:45pm)

ClearSky Medical Diagnostics specialises in medical devices for the diagnosis and monitoring of Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease and a range of other neurodegenerative conditions.
- Is Rubber Band Ligation Still the Best Choice? (2:15pm – 2:35pm)

- Macular Pigment Screening using the MPS II (2:40pm – 3:00pm)
MPS II instrument is a unique, non-invasive instrument for accurately and consistently measuring macular pigment in the retina. Low levels of macular pigment have been associated with the development of macular degeneration, a debilitating and leading cause of blindness. - What can or can’t be done when interacting with Healthcare Professionals? (3:05pm – 3:25pm)
This presentation will be led by Maria Manley, Partner at a multinational law firm Sidley Austin. Maria leads Sidley’s Life Sciences team in London and is a distinguished thought leader and adviser on EU and UK regulatory law.
- Tackling the Neglected Disease in our Midst: Improving the diagnosis of UTIs (3:50pm – 4:10pm)
Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) are one of the most common infections globally, affecting more than 40% of women and causing over 5,000 deaths a year in the UK alone. Llusern Scientific have developed a UTI test which is easy to use, quick and accurate. Led by Dr Emma Hayhurst, CEO, Llusern Scientific, this presentation will highlight the issue of UTIs and outline the potential benefits that an accurate point of care test for UTIs would have - for patients and healthcare providers.
- The future of sleep diagnostics (4:15pm – 4:35pm)
Led by Dr Gwilym Davies, CEO of Stowood, leaders of the UK sleep diagnostics. Dr Davies had a background in sleep diagnostics, with a DPhil in bioengineering from The University of Oxford, UK. He has been the CEO of Stowood since 2014.
- The Benefits of Custom-made 3D Printed Medical Devices (4:40pm – 5:00pm)
How custom-made implants and instruments are designed and how they are manufactured as 3D printed devices. Led by Joe Perriman, Sales Manager at SurgiNovi, a medical technology company specialised in bone and joint surgeries.
