Infection prevention has gone mainstream. What was once the preserve of hospital specialists is now part of everyday life for all of us.
Dr Guy Braverman and Dr Allen Hanouka founded GAMA Healthcare back in 2004. At the time, they were just two NHS doctors, looking to make things safer for their patients. Today their flagship product, Clinell Universal Wipes, are used by 9 out of 10 NHS hospitals and their products are exported to over 60 countries worldwide.
Long before the COVID pandemic, MRSA dominated headlines. People were worried about hospital cleanliness and about the idea of getting sick whilst receiving healthcare. When Clinell Universal Wipes were introduced to one NHS Teaching Hospital, their rate of MRSA acquisition slashed by more than half. Now they're using their infection prevention experience to help fight COVID-19 and beyond.
"We're not a disinfectant manufacturer, we're an infection prevention company," explains Dr Guy Braverman, Managing Director & Co-Founder, GAMA Healthcare. "That means our customers rely on us to keep their patients, staff and visitors safe."
"As soon as it was available we sent our Clinell Universal Wipes for testing against the exact COVID-19 virus. Healthcare professionals use our products every day, we wanted to make sure they had complete confidence that Clinell Universal Wipes will protect them against COVID-19 – they’ve been proven to kill the virus in 30 seconds."
This was followed by the UK and Australian launch of Rediroom, the world's first instant patient isolation room. Rediroom is a mobile cart that can be erected into an isolation room by one person in less than 5 minutes. The revolutionary concept aims to solve the global shortage of isolation side rooms in hospitals, allowing infectious patients to be cared for safely in a traditional multi-bed ward area. The novel solution has proven popular in its home markets, with international launches beginning via distribution partners in early 2021.
At the same time, GAMA Healthcare has scaled up its global supply chain, helping the company meet hugely increased demand in new geographies and new sectors.
"It's been hard work but that's why we started this company: to help keep people safe from infection. COVID has shown us that infection prevention isn't just something that happens in hospitals, it needs to be part of our daily lives at work, at school or home," says Dr Allen Hanouka, Managing Director & Co-Founder, GAMA Healthcare.
"In the UK, we're concentrating on long-term partnerships where we know our clinically proven products will really make a difference and where we can offer the unbeatable support we're known for."
"Internationally, we're working with distribution partners, helping them grow to recreate what made GAMA Healthcare market leaders in infection prevention."
GAMA has re-invested heavily to support that growth. Their £4 million Science & Innovation Centre was unveiled last year, pushing forward scientific research and product innovation in the field of infection prevention. Now the company has announced a new infection prevention super-hub to open in February 2021. The new hub will feature world-class training facilities, accommodate social distancing and house the company as it expands to meet new markets.
