HCA Healthcare UK (HCA UK) has launched a new service which gives patients a complete picture and better understanding of their cardiovascular health with a full range of tests led by an expert cardiologist – the HCA UK Heart Health Check.
Many conditions which impact heart health can go undiagnosed – particularly when people don't have or don't recognise symptoms. For example, it is estimated that up to 50% of people with atrial fibrillation arrhythmias are undiagnosed in the UK[i] and that between six and eight million people are living with undiagnosed or uncontrolled high blood pressure[ii]. Living with persistent high blood pressure can increase your risk of serious health conditions such as heart disease, heart attacks, and strokes[iii] - emphasising why it is so important to have your heart checked.
Building on its established health screening offering and unmatched capability in cardiac care, HCA UK’s Heart Health Check has been designed to give patient’s peace of mind by identifying and then supporting patients to lower their risk of serious conditions, including coronary artery disease, cardiac arrhythmia, heart failure, and stroke.
The new service provides a comprehensive, personalised review of the patient’s heart health including more than 30 speciality blood tests, imaging, and heart rhythm analysis, as well as consultation time with one of HCA UK’s expert cardiologists.
The tests can help to identify other conditions which are risk factors for heart disease, including kidney, liver, and bone disease, diabetes, and thyroid disorders. These tests include:
Speciality heart risk biomarkers such as lipoprotein(a)
- Thyroid health
- Cholesterol levels including HDL ratios, LDL ratios, and triglycerides
- Inflammation biomarkers in the body
- Kidney health and uric acid
- Liver and bile duct health
- Full blood count: red and white blood cells, iron, platelets, blood oxygen and anaemia
- Short-term and long-term blood sugar levels
- Bone health
- Electrolytes such as sodium, potassium, and calcium
Patients will also receive an echocardiogram private heart scan to assess their heart’s structure and function, an ECG to check for an abnormal heart rhythm, and a score to access their future heart and stroke risk based on age, sex, blood pressure, cholesterol, and smoking status.
Results will be assessed and a personalised plan for improving heart health will be developed, with patients referred within HCA UK’s state-of-the-art facilities to subspecialist teams if required, including for the most complex cases.
Andre Hook, Head of Clinical Services: Heart, Lung, & Acute Medicine, says:
“As the UK independent sector’s leader in cardiovascular care, we’re pleased to be providing this new heart health check service to patients. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the UK, and commonly develops silently without symptoms or other obvious warning signs. This is why proactive and early detection is crucial.”
“The service, developed alongside our world-class cardiologists, was created with this goal in mind. It includes convenient access to a personalised evaluation led by a heart specialist, including a bundle of advanced cardiac diagnostics to assess each core component of the heart. This empowers patients to gain a deeper understanding of their heart health, discuss any risks directly with a cardiologist, and take proactive steps toward a healthier future."
HCA UK is the UK’s number one[iv] for private cardiac care – with access to cutting-edge diagnostics, quality facilities and technology, full treatment options, and over 200 leading cardiologists who are supported by sub-speciality teams to deliver fully personalised, patient-centred care.
The Heart Health Check service is available at any of HCA UK’s diagnostic centres across London. The bundled package which includes all tests, scans, and analysis costs £995, and the consultant fee of between £250 - £300.
