The mission’s objective is to connect NHS and Genomics organisations with the developing healthcare market in Thailand and Vietnam.
Why Now?
Thailand healthcare expenditure is ranked 6th out of 195 countries in the Global Health Security Index and its total annual health spend now sits at 5% of GDP. The country is increasingly recognised as one of the world’s most competitive destinations for high-quality and affordable care with initiatives such as the establishment of the Thailand Genomics Sequencing Centre in the high-tech Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) serving to cement its reputation as a global innovation hub.
A UK-Thailand Genomics MOU was signed in 2023 between Ministry of Public Health and DHSC.
Key healthcare priorities include:
- Delivery of Digitally Enabled Integrated Care
- Genomics
- Healthy Ageing
- Development of Thailand as a Global Health & Research Centre of Excellence
Vietnam is currently experiencing its “golden structure” of age population, of which nearly 70% of the population are of working age and the aging population is accelerating. There is a strong appetite for UK solutions to healthcare challenges in Vietnam, with the NHS recognised as a well-regarded brand. 2023 also marks the 50th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between the UK and Vietnam and a key theme of
anniversary celebrations taking place in September will be healthcare partnerships between the two nations.
Key healthcare priorities include:
- Standardisation & Quality
- Transformation of Digital Healthcare Infrastructure
Genomics - Workforce Training & Education
