Leading Welsh medtech and diagnostic companies to showcase the best of Wales’ life sciences industry as part of delegation seeking new trade opportunities
The Welsh Government will be bringing together some of Wales’ foremost life sciences businesses and organisations as part of a trade delegation visiting one of the world’s most prestigious healthcare exhibitions, Arab Health 2022, which takes place in Dubai later this month.
As part of efforts to strengthen the sector’s ties with the United Arab Emirates and wider MENA region along with other global markets, the Welsh Government will be supporting nine businesses during the exhibition which takes place between 24 – 27 January 2022.
The businesses and educators involved in the delegation will showcase the best of Wales’ life sciences innovations, specialisms and technology to prospective customers, healthcare administrators, policymakers, partners and researchers at the exhibition, introducing the Middle East to all that Wales has to offer to the healthcare sector.
Welsh Government Economy Minister, Vaughan Gething said: “The last two years have provided all the evidence we need to show us the life sciences sector’s incredible ability to adapt and overcome unprecedented challenges. At a time when public health has never been more important, innovators in Wales have stepped up to support healthcare professionals from all backgrounds and specialisms. Arab Health is a perfect opportunity for us to show the world what Wales is capable of in this space..
“The UAE and wider Middle East is a key strategic market for Welsh healthcare businesses. With a fledgling life sciences sector of its own, there are a wealth of exciting new opportunities to be explored here for our delegates. In addition, given the global outreach of this event, it is also a great opportunity for the delegation to meet with existing partners from other markets and to seek out new business opportunities.
“Arab Health 2022 presents a unique opportunity for us to explore these opportunities. COVID-19 has undoubtedly caused challenges and setbacks, but the delegates now have an invaluable opportunity to finally be able to meet delegates, business representatives and colleagues face-to-face.”
Supporting Business and Trade
The United Arab Emirates is well-established as one of Wales’ most important international trading partners. It is currently the UK’s largest civil export market in the Middle East and prior to COVID-19, the UAE was Wales’ largest export market outside the EU and USA with a total value of exports approaching £500m.
The Welsh Government maintains a strong presence in the UAE and has had a permanent base in the country since 2004, when it established an office at the British Embassy in Dubai. Since then, the office has worked to promote Wales and represent its trade interests both within the Emirates and across the wider MENA region.
